In the past we've always taken the girls out and done Valentine cards and balloons. But there just isn't the type of atmosphere place here that we are used to. Everything tends to be more "chain" or crowded.

So I'm trying to think of something fun for dinner that the kids can be a big part of. I may go get some lamb chops at costco (for me and dh) and then do some fun side dishes. Maybe sauteed cherry tomatoes? strawberries? I wonder if pink potatoes would gross anyone out LOL

I'm cooking too.

Pink potatoes would not go over well here. I would end up eating them all myself. Oink! :emote_party:

Here's what I'm thinking of serving:

chocolate martinis for H and me, Sprite for the girls
cheese & crackers or something
warm cherry tomato salad (plain lettuce for girls)
bacon wrapped filet mignons
twice baked potatoes or new potatoes roasted with lemon
--insert additional veggie here-- (maybe roasted broccoli?)
make your own ice cream sundaes

I'm cooking dinner but I don't know that it will be anything special...lol! We are having our Valentines party for daycare at 4pm so I will be cleaning up from that then going home to cook...oh what fun.

Aw man, that's no way to get in the mood. :blush2: I hope you come up with an easy and/or make ahead menu.

HA!
Here's what we ended up eating:

happy meals for M & C
McChicken for me
strawberries
milk

H is miserable with the worst part of a cold. He worked today but came home early, didn't eat at all and went to bed at 7pm. At least the girls and I made heart and flower cutout cookies and decorated them. They loved the cookies and the happy meals, so we'll do the other stuff another time. Oh well.

double HA and an awwwwwwww for you

I am sick as a dog and dh has been working like a dog. I did manage to cook, but it was pasta and sauce with chicken breast on it and cheese. Everyone picked at it, but we did exchange cards and small gifts. The dh went back to work.

We're postponing until Friday night when hopefully he won't be exhuasted and I will be better!

happy V day Elizabeth, wish we could have hung out together!

Yup! I made flank steak rolled with spinach, feta cheese and red bell peppers. On the side I served wild rice pilaf and broccoli. On the plate were heart shaped strawberries. For dessert cherry cheesecake.

We ended up going to the cafe to eat. DH and I had hot open-face roast beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy. Kinsey had a corn dog and chips. It was so romantic...LOL :yahoo:

I would have loved that too! I hope you're feeling better tonight. I made the chocolate martinis tonight (vodka has medicinal qualities, no?) and they were good but not as good as the ones we had when we were out Saturday night. I think the ambience, mood lighting and being dressed up gave them that special je ne sais quois. :)
