Gregory Maguire writes them.

I read Wicked and LOVED it. I just finished Mirror, Mirror and it was good, but a little hard to follow at times. It was just more abstract and I didn't enjoy it as much as Wicked.

Those two are traditional stories or fairy tales and he tells them from different characters perspectives. Wicked is Wizard of Oz told from the perspective of the wicked witch. He also develops the whole political and social world so every character is more grey (in the moral sense) and you understand why the different characters are motivated to do what they do. Mirror, Mirror is kind of the same thing with Sleeping Beauty.

I have heard that Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister is good (I know Amy has read that one) and a woman I work with says Lost is his best. She has read most of them and she's always given me good recommendations, so I would trust her judgment. She's the one who loaned me Wicked about a year ago.

Wicked was the first book I ever returned to the library unable to finish. I just could not get into it. I seem to be the minority, though. Pretty much everyone else I know LOVES his books, so I hope you enjoy them!!!!

I read Mirror, Mirror. It did drag on quite a bit. I skipped several pages at a time and don't think I missed anything.

I have Wicked in my stack to read. I think DH is going to read it first, though. What's up with THAT?!?! LOL
