What are you reading?

Do you like it and would you recommend it?

What is next that is on your list?

The Christmas Box Collection by Richard Paul Evans.

So far it's a very depressing book. I would've never went out on my own to buy/borrow this book. My mom lent it to me some time ago. So, I figured I'd finally read it so that I could give it back to her.

I just finished A Theory of Relativity by Jaqueline Mitchard--good but depressing. Now I am reading The Tender Bar for my IRL book club and so far I like it. Its a memoir and I am always a sucker for one of those! :)

Just started Wicked, I'm only a few chapters into it, but so far, so good.

I just finished "Nineteen Minutes" this week. I really liked it, even though I kind of expected the ending, and I found myself getting so mad at the crappy way people treat/view people. Anyway...not my fav, but I'd recommend it.

I'm now reading "Forever" by Karen Kingsbury. Part of a series.

I have to agree with you, had very mixed feeling thoughout the book and I intensely disliked one of the main characters. I'd recommend it too but it's tough to get thru at times.

I'm reading Leaving Normal right now, it's so-so. Also reading Chicken Soup for the Couples Soul, picked it up at my library book sale for a quarter.

I'm working on the 4th in the Travelling Pants series. It's OK so far. It seems like she is running out of steam for the series a bit. Maybe I'm just not far enough into it yet. Then I'll go back to "Fall on your Knees" that Rachel and Kerry have talked about. That one is very good and very disturbing. I'm actually anxious to get back to it.

Reading Fall on Your Knees and it's very, very good. Even though it's pretty disturbing in a lot of ways, the writing and storytelling is so well done. It's probably not for everyone, but I'll go on record as saying Kerry hasn't done me wrong with her recommendations yet. I guess we have the same taste in books.

I'm also listening to Stones from the River by Ursula Hegi. About a girl born as a dwarf right after WWI in a small town in Germany. It follows her life growing up loved by her father but also as an outcast in the town because of her condition. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through but the synopsis says she shelters Jews during WWII, so it follows a good bit of her life. I like it a lot. I've heard of Hegi before but this is the first book of hers I've ever read.

But it ended in a good way! The premise of the book was pretty sad, though. I liked that one a lot. Have you read The Most Wanted. That was the first one of hers I read and it was really good. I have Breakdown Lane on my bookshelf but haven't read it yet.

I posted before I read your post! I'm still in the middle of Fall on Your Knees and it's really good. I got the second in the Pants series at a used bookstore so I'll read that one soon.

I'm reading We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver for my IRL book club. It's letters from the mother of a boy who shoots a bunch of his classmates at his school. I'm not into it yet.

I've read this one twice. Once for me and re-read for my IRL book group. I enjoyed it more the first time, the discussion was good though. I just put it in my bag of books to give away, LOL. Don't figure I'll read it again as it's really long one.

I'm going to write this one down in my "to read" file. It sounds really interesting. I have a very close friend who is a dwarf, actually. I always have to laugh, because she always refers to me as tall. (I'm 5ft LOL)

I am so glad you like it Rach! I would of felt so bad if you read that thick book and didn't like it. I guess we do have the same taste!

I have Stones from the River sitting on my late grandmother's bookshelf. I'll have to put it on my list. Thanks for the recommendation!

Just picked up Drowning Ruth....not looking forward to it, BUT I could find none of the ones I wanted at the library and saw this title, recognized it and grabbed it. As soon as I saw the Oprah Book Club seal I was like "aw crap, this is going to be depressing"

Hope its good though.

I'm reading "Ahab's Wife or, The Star Gazer". Yep, that's the title! It's for my IRL book club. The book is like 2000 pages long and I am only on chapter three. It'll take me a while! It's like Moby Dick, but from the women's perspective. I have heard great things about it.
