I'm trying to read Winds of Change by Martha Grimes for my IRL book group. I just can't get into it, finding myself just going over the words, not really reading it.

Just got a couple new ones from the library though, The Chocolate Bridal Bash and Little Lady, Big Apple. Chic lit gets me everytime! :)

I finished reading Drowning Ruth---I started out not liking it but ended up really enjoying this story. I would recommend it

This week I am going to start "Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress, Tales of being Groovy and Clueless" A Memoir

Finished Fall on Your Knees. It took me a while to get through it . . . not because it wasn't good, I've just been really busy. The other night I went to bed to read at 9:30 and thought I would just read til I fell asleep. I ended up staying awake til 2:30am and then finally had to put it down to get some sleep! I finished it yesterday after I got home from work.

I can't say I would recommend it to everyone but I thought it was an excellent book. It's a terribly dysfunctional family with a lot of disturbing things happening. But there were twists and turns in the plot and some things happened toward the end I didn't expect. Very well written book. The "good" characters end up doing some of the most terrible things then the "bad" ones find ways to redeem themselves.

If you don't mind a little rape and incest then this book is for you! :hugs: Okay, that's really not funny, but it is a good book.

Still listening to Stones from the River. Really good but it takes a lot longer to listen to a book than to read it. It will probably take another week or so.

Stones from the River is an absolutely astonishing book. Wonderfully written, and the author isn't of short stature!

Still working on "Fall on your Knees". Like Rachel said it's not because it's not good, it's just long! I haven't gotten to the rape/incest stuff yet and I'm not really anxious to.

Still reading Ahab's Wife. I have heard it's worth the long read, but I am having a very hard time getting into it. I am only on page 47!

Rachel, I am glad you liked Fall on Your Knees. My grandmother swore by the author's other book, but I couldn't get into it. It's sitting on my shelf....I'll get to it this summer hopefully. I have Stones on a River too. So many good choices...

Started a new book today. The Brothers K by David James Duncan. Another book he wrote (The River Why) is one of my favorite books and I've heard good things about this one, too.

The Body Farm by Patricia Cornwell.

Sounds interesting---whats it about?

Kay Scarpetta, consulting forensic pathologist for the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, in her grittiest & most compelling novel. In rural North Carolina, the brutal murder of 11 yr. old Emily Steiner has shaken a small town. But more disturbing are the details of the crime, chillingly reminiscent of the handiwork of a serial killer who has eluded the unit for years. Into this volatile atmosphere comes Scarpetta's ingenious, rebellious niece Lucy, an FBI intern w/ a promising future in Quantico's computer engineering facility - until she is accused of a shocking security violation. While coming to terms w/ Lucy, Kay must conduct a grisly forensic investigation at a clandestine research facility in Tennessee known as The Body Farm. There she will find more answers to Emily Steiner's murder - and evidence that paints a picture of a crime more horrifying than she imagined.

So far it's pretty good.
