Has anyone read A Thousand Splendid Suns?

How about Thirteen Moons? That's the second novel by Charles Frazier (Cold Mountain). Again, I loved Cold Mountain and want to know if his second novel is as good as that one.

I will read A Thousand Splendid Suns, but I wasn't a fan of Cold Mountain so I'll probably skip Thirteen Moons.
Wow Rach...we never disagree on books! Must be a Full moon!

It's okay, Kerry. I can forgive a lapse in judgment once in a while. You have a lot of other great qualities.

We're reading it for our book group and discussing it on Aug. 7th. I bought the book since there were 101 holds on it at our local library. If it's any good, I'll let you know. I will probably crack it open tonight.
If you can wait a bit, I'll keep you updated.

I found this story more engaging to me than Kite Runner.

We're reading it for book club and discussing it August 20. I requested it at the library but I'm number 180 in the queue! I'm planning to buy it too.

A suggestion...request the book in large print. The list is usually waaaay smaller than the regular book. On the Cape, there are over 700 people on the list for the regular hard cover, but only 28 for the large print. And request the book at the library you most frequent, you'll have priority.

What a good idea!
I think I might still have to buy this one though. I requested it in large print and I'm only 29th on the list, but the library system only owns one copy in large print. It says three more are ordered.
Everyone says they've cried through half this book though. Do I really want to read it?

I was PMSing when I was reading it so that may be why I cried. One other woman in our book group said she didn't cry at all.
Then again, I'm a "softie" and I hate to read about people being used/abused...it just saddens me.
I'd still read it. I won't re-read it but I am very glad that I read it. It gave me a perspective that I didn't have before.

Thank you, Peggy.
I'm not sure if I'm going to read it or not. My book club has read so many depressing things lately, a book about a boy who shoots up his school, another about a boy who dies in an accident and most recently one about the civil war. I think I might skip next month's meeting and read Harry Potter and Bill Bryson instead!
