Right now I am reading Little Children by Tom Perrotta (he also wrote Election, which was made into a movie) and I really like it. It deals w/ 30ish parents, realtionships, sahm's, sahd's, marriage, affairs, child molesters moving into nice neighborhoods, etc. The story is told from multiple points of view, which make it very interesting. It is very absorbing and funny at the same time. I would highy recommend it, although I am only 2/3 of the way through. I think this was also made into a movie, but I am having a hard time seeing how they could do the story justice in a movie format.

The DVD came out about three weeks ago. I thought the movie was great. You'd like the scene w/ her husband, the panty sniffer. ;)

I have a pile of non fiction on my nightstand that I'm working through. At the top is We Need to Talk About Kevin I was reading this for my IRL book club. I had to miss the meeting and now I'm just trying to finish the book. It concerns a fictional school massacre and is written from the perspective of the killer's mother to her estranged husband. Fun stuff!

also Queen Bees and Wannabes This was the basis for the movie Mean Girls, about helping your daughter navigate cliques. It's really good. I'm thinking of recommending it for my club. It's a "how to" rather than a story like the movie was.

and A New and Right Spirit, Creating an Authentic Church in a Consumer Culture This one was handed out at a meeting at church and it's very good too.

At the bottom of my pile is The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory. I'm looking forward to picking that up when I finish the others.

I am reading Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum and really liking it---takes place in Germany during the war and the charachter in the book gets pregnant by a Jew and hides him---its getting really interesting right now. I like reading about this period of time for some reason. I am fascinated by how people could be so disgusting and how human beings could treat other human beings like animals just based on their race.

Not fascinated like I think its good but just in disbelief I guess that this could have ever happend

Not sure if I am going to see the movie or not. I am about 20-30 pages from the end and all I can see are bad things coming my way ;) . I guess it will depend on what I think once I finish. The whole pantie sniffing thing was really distrubing :dntknw: .

I have never read the book. It seems like the book made the pantie scene way worse than the movie. I kinda thought the scene in the movie was funny. But, maybe since I'm the only one that mentioned that I'll have to re-think that scene. Or else I have a REALLY sick sense of humor. Seriously, I didn't think that that scene was bad in the movie.

I liked this one and there is a movie of it but I haven't seen it. I loved the movie election and keep meaning to read that book.

Have you read The Ophelia Project? I think that's the title . . . I read it a few months ago and it was similar to what you describe above. Written by a psychologist who works with pre and teen girls and what they go through when they hit the pre-teen/early teen years and how parents can help them weather the storm and come out okay on the other side. It was very good and I'll probably read it again when Omi gets a little older.
