And dangit, i can't remember if it's called 'autobiography' or 'biography' when the person is still alive when writing it (as opposed to dead and writing it? ;) ), but I just read "Lucky Man" and loved it. It's Michael J. Fox's biography since his diagnosis and 'coming out' of Parkinson's Disease. It has some extremely moving moments and his wife, wow, what a woman.

Anyway, I recommend it to anyone if you're a biography junky like me.

Oh, at ETA it truly makes me gasp in awe at what our own Lauren Sue has accomplished in the years since she's been diagnosed with it. Bravo.

An autobiography is written by the person who its about...KWIM??

I think a biography could be written by someone else

Ah, okay, then it was an autobiography as it was written by him. What biographies/auto/memoirs have you read?

The Glass Castle which I HIGHLY recommend. its by Jeannette Walls who writes for MSNBC's scoop.

The Tender Bar by J.R. Moerhinger

Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress, Tales of Growking up Groovy and clueless

I liked all these but by far The Glass Castle was my fav!

I've read:
  • Lucky Man - Michael J. Fox (A) - loved it.
  • Victim or Villian - Prince Charles (:D - so-so, definitely paints him as a victim though.
  • Diana - Princess Di (not sure of the name) (:D - okay, quite informative, but doesn't paint her as a victim.
  • My Lives - Roseanne Arnold (A) - funny
  • Knee Deep in Paradise - Brett Butler (A) - also very funny, but definitely sad parts.
  • Mommy Dearest - Joan Crawford (B - as written by Christina Crawford) - fantastic book, scary lady.
  • Madonna - didn't finish this one, it really sucked, I think it's by Andrew Morton (not a great writer)
A= Autobiography B=biography
Usually I just walk by the Biographies section in my library just to see if one grabs my eye. I'm looking for Anne Heche's right now. I have a lot more that I've read (and 4 of those above I own), but can't remember.

I looooove biographies! Autobiographies are my fav. I'll have to really think to see how many I can list here....
I too read Lucky Man by Michael J. Fox. I've always loved him. :P
Never Have Your Dog Stuffed-And Other Things I've learned by Alan Alda
Broken Music by Sting
Burnt Toast: And Other Philosophies of Life by Teri Hatcher
Speedbumps: Flooring It Through Hollywood by Teri Garr
Kiss Me Like A Stranger: My Search For Love and Art by Gene Wilder-(one of my most favorite books ever)
A Lotus Grows in the Mud by Goldie Hawn
My Life So Far by Jane Fonda
Kate Remembered by A. Scott Berg (more about Katherine Hepburn)
A Million Little Pieces by James Frey (couldn't forget that one lol)
Three Weeks with My Brother by Nicholas and Michah Sparks
A Piece of Cake: A Memoir by Cupcake Brown

That's all I can come up with right now. I'd love to find a great new one. Any suggestions??
TIA!

I don't read a lot of them. I do; however, remember reading "And So It Goes" by Linda Ellerbee. Being a journalist/journalism major/writer, I was interested in her honest and funny perspective on the industry. She talks about the double standard for men vs. women in the TV news business. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

I wish I liked this type of book more...maybe I haven't read the right ones yet and need to read some of them that are listed here.

I guess a book being well written makes all the difference. I've started a few biographies and people would tell their life stories like I would, kind of like a list. Boring. Or so 'first hand' that it was too hard to follow. A great story teller always grabs my attention. I think of all the books I listed, Teri Garrs was kind of difficult to read. The others were great!

I'll look for the one you mentioned! :hugs:
