This is my first time posting on this site but I read it often.
I found it interesting that Jess mention the You:On A Diet book since my husband and I started this diet about 1 month ago.
My husband saw Dr. Oz on a PBS special about this book. We went out and bought the book the next day.
We have had wonderful results. So far in a month I have lost 9 lbs. and my husband has lost 18.5 lbs. and we have both lost 3 inches from our waists. We aren't what most people would call "overweight" but more than anything we just wanted to feel better. One thing that Dr. Oz talks about in the book is that vigorous exercise is actually counterproductive and can usually lead to long term physical ailments and decrease of longevity (page 148).We walk every, singe day NO EXCUSES! My husband does some weight training a few times a week and I do some Pilates moves after every walk. I have really enjoyed walking every day. Before this diet, I would jog or work out so hard/long that I would end up with a headache for the rest of the day. This hasn't happened since we started simply walking 30 minutes every day.
We follow the directions in the book including eating whole grain breads, and low sugar foods. If the food we are buying (except for fresh fruits) has more than 5 grams of sugar in it we don't eat it. We make it a habit to read food labels/ingredients before buying anything. Dr. Oz talks about "waist management" and doesn't concentrate on the scales but we weigh ourselves once a week to make sure we are still on track and where we want to be.
We have been very impressed. I haven't been at my current weight since before my 7 year old was born.
Just thought I'd post a review since we have found something that has worked for us. The book also has some really good recipes in it.

Thanks,
Kate

Glad you finally joined in!! And great to know that you've found something that's working for you!! It helped me to read about how your intestines work & the processes/ hormones that go on during digestion. I have IBS & after cutting back on dairy for a couple days I saw a HUGE difference for me. I've been taking a lactose tablet when I have yogurt or cottage cheese and have just been drinking light soymilk instead of skim milk. It's made a BIG difference w/ my IBS.

Glad that you're enjoying your walks! Feel free to post anytime!

Hugs,
Jess

That's awesome! Thank you so much for sharing :grouphug: I've seen Dr. Oz... and unlike so many you can tell he really wants to inform us all about true health.. not just about him making $$, urging us to try some "scheme"... I wish more true health professionals got out there and spread the truth like he does.

Keep us posted!

Edited to add: That's wondeful you and your hubby are doing this together.. I think it makes all the difference in the world.

Thank you for the welcome!!
My DH was more ready to try the diet than I was. I was hesitant because I enjoyed certain foods that I knew I would need to give up. Also, I didn't want to have to "cook" differently. Come to find out, the things we are cooking now are much easier than what we were cooking before our diet.
It is something that we have needed to do together since we have changed how we eat. It wouldn't work if we weren't in it together. It also helps to have each other to hold accountable to.
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Kate
