I am about 1/4 of the way through Angelas Ashes. So far its a bit boring. I was expecting it to be really good, but so far I am disappointed.

Started The Princess Bride for my book group. I did NOT want to read this one but I haven't read or went to group for a while so thought I'd better at least try. It's ok, not what I thought it was. Very strangely written. I'll get thru it, not sure if I'll like it or not.

I liked this one, although it wasn't as great as I had been expecting it to be.

Right now, I'm reading Harry Potter/Order of the Phoenix

Yes I guess my expectations were high of Angelas Ashes....I am 1/2 way down now...read while the kids were in the pool, but its the same old thing that has been happening since page 1...I am tired of it

I finished "Hitched" by Carol Higgins Clark yesterday and am more than 100 pages into Janet Evanovich's "One for the Money" -- thanks, Brenda for the new author. I am having a blast reading it! ;)

DH calls it "fluff". I call it entertainment and fun! He made fun of me: are there any words more than 8 letters long? Then, he proceeded to find some. Jerk! LOL :)

Continuing my summer of fluff: Nicholas Sparks' "The Rescue". So far so good.

Peggy: I'm glad you are enjoying Janet Evanovich. Our whole family loves her. You gotta get your DH to read one!

I finished the 3 books I was reading last week. Laura Bush's biography was very good. I enjoyed most of the first half where it talks about her growing up and her family. The second half was more about her time as First Lady. It's not political at all and only mentions some specific things that happen in the White House. Towards the end it tends to repeat things that were already mentioned so I skimmed over the last few chapters.
I'm now reading The Cat Who Dropped a Bobshell by Lillian Jackson Braun. It's another one of the series I read. It's a cute mystery series about a two Siamese cats. Very quick, light reads.
I put two Janet Evanovich books on hold at the "big library" but I'm like 5th on the list for Lean Mean Thirteen. I forgot that she had another one come out this year called Plum Lovin' that's an in between novella. Watch out when you are reading her series b/c there are a few of these. Here's a link to her website that lists the books http://www.evanovich.com/ click on Novels to see the list.
I picked up two other books but since I'm at work, I don't have them in front of me to say what they were.

Just back from the library--I got out the newest Lee Smith (On Agate Hill) and newest Maeve Binchy (Whitethorn Woods). These are two of my favorite authors so I'm *really* looking forward to the next week or so of reading!

I haven't read this in years, but I remember loving it. It's definitely not the funny fairy tale that the movie is, although the movie is a good adaptation. The book is supposed to be a retelling of an old political satire with the reteller's notes/comments in a different colored type--I totally fell for it when I read it and didn't realize for a long time that all of it was fiction.

So there is no S. Morgenstern???? The whole book is fiction???? I haven't had time to really look into it but was going to go on Amazon to see if there really was this Morgenstern guy. (Feeling like a fool at this point. :clapping: ) I couldn't tell what was what, tried reading all the stuff at the end, Buttercup's Baby, etc. and got more confused. There's a few older people in my book group who will be more lost than I was, they sometimes get confused with books that are straight forward, this one will knock them for a loop. LOL I borrowed the movie from the library since I finished the book yesterday. Everyone that's seen it says it's good.Started HP #6 while DS read #7. We started painting bedrooms today too so it's gonna be a slow reading week.

I started Bill Bryson's In A Sunburned Countryand I can hardly put it down. It's marketed as a travel guide on Australia but his writing is wonderfully engaging.

I listened to it on CD. It was read by Frank McCourt and I really enjoyed it. I was afraid it would be too sad to actually read and that I would not finish it if it was. I think books are always better on CD when they are read by the authors. It is a very sad story.

Yup, no S. Morgenstern. And the authors comments about his OWN life are also fiction (i.e. he doesn't really have a son).

Did you watch the movie yet? It's one of my favorites! I just got DH a t-shirt for his birthday with Inigo Montoya's line (Hello, my name in Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.") on it. One of DH's hobbies is fencing and he thinks Inigo Montoya is one of the coolest characters ever.

Nope, haven't watched it yet. I'm painting the kid's rooms this week so been busy, busy. I'm waiting on the first coat in DS's room to dry right now, which is the only reason I'm online, lol. I'm so glad you chimed in on my post, I would have felt so stupid to go to book group and not realize it's ALL fiction.

Cool shirt!! Can't wait to watch the movie!

His book, A Short History of Nearly Everything, is one of my all time favorites.

I finished "One for the Money" and am now starting "The Memory Keeper's Daughter". I've been avoiding this one since I have heard I may not like everything in it.

I also put a hold on Janet Evanovich's "Two for the Dough"...so I may be reading more than one book this week.

I'm also readingn Magic Tree House #9 to Nick..."Dolphins at Daybreak". Sometimes he reads a page here and there. He can do it...just feels intimidated when there aren't as many pictures in the book.
