A good friend of mine just lost her dad to cancer & she hasjust asked me to do the Boston Jummy Fund Walk (13 miles)for cancer with her in September. I am in good shape but worry about making it the 13 miles w/o killing my feet.
Anyone know I good training website so I can start doing walks and training specifically to build up my feet & endurance?

Thanks!!!
Kelly

I know a lot of people who have walked 1/2 marathons. Here's one of Hal Higdon's training plans for walking. I bet you could find some on RunnersWorld.com, too. I've used Hal Higdon's plans for running and they are great, but my problem is that his plans have you running 5-6 days per week. I struggled a lot with injuries and fatigue so now my training program only has 3 days a week of running and it works great for me. It's the FIRST program, but I don't see one for walking on that site. Walking 5-6 days a week might not be a problem so Hal's may work for you.

I did a google search and saw there's a site called www.marathonwalking.com that has plans for 1/2 marathons as well.

Good luck! Sounds like fun and a great cause. Keep us posted.

I haven't walked one, but Rachel gave you some good tips. Also, I think that Prevention has some good walking programs, try http://www.prevention.com and see what you find. (yep, here it is http://www.prevention.com/walking/walking_...Calendar%202007 )

Good luck w/ the walk, it sounds like it's for a great cause!! Keep us posted on how it goes!

Hugs,
Jess

I saw lots of walkers last year at the half that I ran and was very impressed how fast they could walk! I'm sure you'll do great! What a great cause too! Good Luck Kelly!
