Not your favorite all time books...........I think we've done that poll before (although my answers would probably be different on any given day!). So name and give a brief little synopsis of three really good books you've read in the past couple of years.

ETA: And tell us why you liked them.

My three:

1) Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier - Follows the life of a white man who joins the Cherokee nation then spends his life keeping his community from being evicted from their lands by the US government and sent west. Beautiful writing and fabulous character development.

2) The River Why by David James Duncan - Man who is obsessed with fishing so he moves to an isolated place to fish all the time then ends up figuring out the meaning of life. Very quirky, likable characters and an amazing command of language so his writing is so clever in the way he uses vocabulary and phrases. He keeps the fishing theme going strong all the way through. Loved the book and I don't even like fishing!

3) The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova - Scholars that research the Dracula legend keep having bizarre, supernatural encounters as they learn more about the historical figure and legend. Kind of like The Da Vinci Code except with Dracula. Long book, but I loved the recounting of the history of the Dracula legend and she also weaves a lot of Eastern European culture into the story. The author lived in Eastern Europe for 10 years while researching the book, so the descriptions are very authentic.

The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls---just loved this memoir...mostly I was shocked that someone lived this way

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn--this was just a beautiful story

Running With Scissors--I am just a sucker for a memoir

OMGosh...the past couple of years? That's alot of books to remember, lol. I must say I loved anything by Phillippa Gregory...she definately sparked an interest in the whole genre, not to mention a bunch of biographies too. Loved Katherine by Anya Seton...great book. Don't know if it was a favorite, but I really liked A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown...I was very inspired by her story.

Hmmm, I'll have to think about this!
