I've noticed I've been reading a lot of the books that I heard good things about on this board lately. I've really been enjoying them too. Where do you all hear about good books?

Well, Brenda got me hooked on Janet Evanovich. I actually get a lot of recommendations from friends.
There's a book out called something like: "1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die" -- someone I know has one although I don't have it I recently thumbed through it and I'd like to get it too someday.
Our library puts out a free publication called Book Page, America's Book Review. I recently picked up two books from there that I bought and am going to read: "Tales From the Teacher's Lounge" (from the author of "Daddy Needs A Drink"; Robert Wilder once again masterfully turns his firsthand experience into a narrative that's at once both humorous and moving.) and "Garden Spells" A tale of two sisters by Karen Ann Cullotta.
The above publication has 32 pages of book reviews on many genres. I am done looking at this and can always get another one at our library anyway. Would you like me to mail it to you? I think I wrote a phone number on the outside but other that that it was just folded and ready to go into the recycling bin.
PM me your full name/address if you'd like it. I'll hold onto it for a week or so to see if you want it.

My grandmother was my the authority on good books. She'd call me and tell me to grab a pen and give me her recommendations. Now that she died, I must work a little harder! I get loads and loads of book recommendations from patrons at work. I want to get a little notebook so I can start writing things down!
I read book reviews, I listen to what others are reading, and I also just wander through the library, judging books from ther covers, lol.

Mostly from this bb, but also from friends and family IRL. I don't often take the words of the 'public' anymore as I've read some of the books on the 'top' lists and most of them suck IMHO!LOL! I hated anything from George Orwell and a lot of classics are boring to me, so I stick to friend recommended.

This board, NPR, Kerry, and a woman I work with. Those have been my best sources lately.

IRL book club gals, reviews in magazines, and you all here . .
And also by the cover while browsing. As a graphic designer, I LOVE that people choose a book by the cover. it is such an interesting comment on style of the writing . . . (not always correct of course) I find that if I respect or am drawn to what they've put on the cover of their book, I'll probably like something about the book: either the story or the writing, sometimes luckily both!

I usually check the "new books" shelf at the library every time I go. I also just browse thru the books in the library and pick up things as they strike me. I've found a lot of great books that way.
I also get recommendations from here, friends, my Mom, and other family.
