what do you wear in the winter when you exercise outside? Do you spring for expensive tights and such or do you improvise? Do you wear a hat, ear band or nothing? And how do earphones work with that head attire? Winter product recommendations?

It's been a few years since I had to exercise outside but I always wore sweats/track pants with tights under (vented kind), thick socks, and a vented shirt with a heavier shirt over. For my head, I wore a regular stocking cap that doesn't have the extra 'flip'; meaning it fit the head and not to go over the face. When I was truly hardcore I would wear a full mask, LOL!
I was in the Army and had to exercise outdoors all year even in Korea when it was bitter cold. All we wore was out regular shirt and shorts with a sweatsuit over and a stocking cap. I never saw the point in buying special clothes since I was able to do it then.

Once we hit the 30s, I'm usually stuck inside! Darn asthma kicks up! I've gotten my exercise induced asthma under control, but the cold is too much for me.

Well, just for walking outside I think it doesn't matter as much what you wear as long as you are comfortable. But... if you're running or sweating you really need the dry-wicking type material. Even when it's 20 degrees out if I'm running, I'm sweating. You can get the dry-wick type shirts most anywhere now, from Target & Wal*mart, Kohl's, etc. I did splurge & buy a pair of running tights a couple years ago and they have been an awesome purchase. I think I paid less around $40 for them and they keep my legs nice & toasty while out running (and I've run up to below 0 temps in them).
If it's above 40*, I'm typically still running in shorts & a t-shirt w/ maybe a light jacket & gloves. Below 40* I'll wear either dry-wick capris or pants, t-shirt, jacket, gloves, and headwrap. Below 30* I'll wear my tights, long sleeve shirt, jacket, gloves, and headwrap. Below 20* and I'll switch the jacket for a zip-up fleece.
HTH!
Hugs,
Jess

Your supposed to exercise outside in the snow ?
I am not saying you HAVE to--I am saying you CAN! LOL. Certainly you know that our weather is cold more than half of the year...I will stay outside as long as I can. I am thinking of replacing walking with X-country skiing once there's snow.

You mean when it gets all the way down to some ridiculous temp like 50 or something?
Winter is golden time for me. Mornings can be chilly, but daytime temps are rarely below the 40s. Lovely running weather.
My hell season is the summer and I do all my running on the treadmill unless we're in a different state.
