I lost 5 lbs in the first ten days. Then nothing for two weeks! This morning it was another 2.5 lbs down, finally! I was really starting to get frustrated. I've been working out every day for the last 2 weeks or so, keeping my total calorie intake at or below 1200. I guess I lost the first 5 before I started exercising.

Sorry, I have to feel a little cheated in the light of Brenda's scale success. WTH?? And Brenda--water weight?? 19 pounds?? No way. Don't belittle your efforts--that is AWESOME, and I am sure it is not mostly water weight.

My mom, who has bouts with Weight Watchers every now and then, tells me she plateaus at 5 pounds, then again at 10, then at 20, so I guess this is normal for us. And I know building muscle is a benefit that doesn't necessarily show up at the scale. I know. I'm just frustrated.

Anyway, I was really happy to see some change after waiting for so long. My capris are too loose today.

ETA: Oh, and I refuse to "cut out" sugar. No way. But I have instituted reasonable limits as prescribed by the 90/10 plan.

Congrats on your loss!! Its very possible that you are eating too few calories and that's why you aren't seeing the results you are wanting. 1200 is very low and you definitely shouldn't go less than that, especially if you are exercising regularly. I know some diets claim that is what you should eat, but there is more evidence out there to prove that you really need a lot more than that. Keep up the good work, try not to get frustrated, some people have to tinker a lot with calories and exercise in order to find the magical combination that works for them!!

Congrats on the loss.

1200 calories is very little, esp. if you are working out. What are you eating & when???

uhhh..thanks! :P  You'll be happy to know that I had a little slip today and had 2 mini powdered donuts this afternoon--after DH's news I had to have something. ;)

I think you are doing great Shelby. Just trying is doing something. You know like everyone else said you may not be eating enough to drop pounds. I eat way more than I used to and don't feel hungry. I eat a lot of little snacks through out the day and drink lots of water.

Good luck!! I know you can do it. :hugs:

Thanks for the encouragement. Some days I eat healthy cereal for breakfast, but most days I don't get hungry and start eating until lunch. I usually eat smaller portions of "regular" food, whole wheat bread, veggies, fruit, cottage cheese...the 90/10 plan has menus and recipes, but there aren't many I am fond of for breakfast or lunch. I usually cook one of their dinners, and then I have my 250-calorie "free" food late at night.

My basal metabolic rate is only in the 1400s, and I don't usually get hungry on the 1200 or so, so it seemed like it was a good range...hmm.

Are you really sure about that number? You may want to look around for some other bmr calculators and see if they say the same thing.

Well, I heard/read something that said you should have *something* within an hour of waking up....because it sets your metabolism for the entire day... I would encourage you to have some breakfast each day.
