I was curious so I asked dh how big our apartment was. He said he'd figure 800 sq ft. That's for 3 children, a dog, cat and dh & me. Plus way more toys than any child deserves :D

It sure makes it hard to keep things clean with a small place. How do you do it? I would love some organization help!

Woah! I am impressed! Part of be believes we'd be at each other's throats in a smaller space. But then we seem to spend all our time together in the living room or kitchen anyway, so maybe I'm totally wrong! LOL

I know what you mean. We never use my living room or dining room very often. We are always in the kitchen & family room. That's why we want our new house to have an open floor plan.

It helps that I have a full basement with a finished playroom. All the kids' crap goes in that playroom, and in the summer we use it for my stepdaughter and any guests (remember, we are talking about Cape Cod...we have company all summer!). I also constantly keep up on "stuff". Peter and I clean house several times a year...we got through the kids' toys and throw out anything broken, incomplete or just not used anymore. I go through closets and give away stuff as soon as it's outgrown.

Privacy is an issue. My bedroom is basically an extension of the living room. When Cam watches King Kong, Francesca and Joey may watch Mermaidia in our room. And you can only imagine the problems that come up with just one bathroom!

One a positive note, it is so much cheaper to maintain a smaller house. Not much to heat at all! And no one can retreat in thier own private part of the house, so I can keep an eye on everyone, lol. But I always warn guests...don't expect to sleep past 6:00 AM!

I always say if we had basement it would be nearly as bad. Our living room is also our playroom! THe bedrooms are so small that the kids mess them up quickly and are BAD about cleaning them up. Plus they are so small there is little room to play.
I like houses with the open floorplan too. I don't like walls closing rooms in. I want the livingroom and dining room to be all open. I would love to have a nice basement for the computer and toys and probably a bedroom when the kids get older.
Oh to dream....
