I haven't been able to run the past 3 weeks due to being sick and then schedules. And, after meeting with my new boss this morning, it doesn't look like I'm gonna have any time to run before the 5K either, except maybe the Saturday before! :D

I know there are tons of other 5Ks. In fact, there is one in July for the domestic abuse shelter that is part of the organization I'm now working for. But...now here's where I'm gonna sound like a total dork...I really wanted to do *this* one on the 22nd cuz...well...everyone gets a medal! :yahoo: Running has been such a *huge* accomplishment for me, that I just *really* wanted this medal as a reminder to myself of what I *can* do, kwim?

So, I'm trying to decide what to do. I *have* run 5k before, just not for about 4 weeks now. And, I have been still biking or doing the elliptical, so it's not like I haven't been doing *anything.* I'm not a strong runner.... those of you like Jess, Lisa, Rachel and Winnie could probably *walk* at close to my running pace, so I'm just not sure what I should do....

Anyway....just rambling...thanks for letting me vent!

Big hugs and don't sell yourself short!

I've never run in anything that was organized, so I don't know how it all works or anything, but could you just try it and see how it goes maybe?

Awww Allyn...I'm sorry you haven't been able to run in awhile. I have been in the same boat either b/c I was sick or just stuck working all day. I think you should go ahead and try to squeeze in some running if you can before the 5K, otherwise, you can always just slow down your normal pace to save your energy. I'd try to go ahead and run as much as you are able to and if you can't, you can always walk, right??? My sister told me when she ran her 1st and last 5K, she couldn't run the whole way and there were lots who walked so she didn't feel bad.

I'm sure you will NOT be alone or the last one walking if you cannot run the whole race. I've always seen people walking parts of the races I ran last year.

((((Hugs))))),

I totally agree with Winnie, Allyn. You've still got 2 weeks, you still might be able to do this. It's hard settling into going back to work, everyone getting adjusted to Mom working then throw in how sick you guys have been. Don't get down about it. Maybe sit down and figure out where you can squeeze even a short run in, talk to Timm, let him know how much you want to do this, maybe he can help you out on this. Maybe just setting this as a short term goal then life goes back to "normal". Hopefully you can work this out so you can do this for YOU!!

I say, DO IT!! I think you'll be fine. I managed to do a 5 mile run after taking 2 mos off, so you should be ok! Even if you have to walk some, no big deal! I know you've been looking forward to it. We'll be here rooting you on!!!

Hugs,
Jess

O.K., a post about running AND with my name in it will bring me out of my short-lived lurkdom, LOL.

I'm going to have to agree with the others.... I say DO IT! Twice I've come off 4 weeks off after my tendonitis and surgery, and I've been able to eek out 3 miles. I think if you've done it before, you can do it again. You've still got a few weeks to fit a few miles in, and if you gotta walk a bit in the race SO WHAT!! Plus, like you mentioned, it's not like you haven't been doing *anything* "eliptical girl"! BTW, I had my first eliptical experience at the hotel gym on vacation last week and WOW! I *loved* that thing! I was sweating buckets after just 10 minutes. What a great workout.

Anyway, I totally understand that self-doubt, but I know I've been there with that gut feeling of really wanting to do a particular race. I think you might regret it if you don't at least give it a shot.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Lisa
