Dh has been looking into lots of different things and he sawt his would be cheaper than building from the ground up. His brother is in construction and he told him houses around here are averaging $125/sq ft. From what he's seen the prefab houses would be cheaper. I have looked around and the ones I have seen are nice but they almost all have 3 bedrooms unless they are almost 3000 sg ft, I know we can't afford that big of a house!
I guess I always got the wrong idea and thought of prefab houses like modular ones, where they are built and shipped in pieces!
Just wondering if nayone has ever had this done or known anyone to do this. We are trying to look into any option that would get us the best house for the cheapest cost!

Modular home
Modular homes are built in sections at the manufacturer’s factory then shipped to the job site on truck beds, often in two or three sections. On the job site, the sections are placed on a pre-made foundation and then joined. Halliday Homes is not a modular home manufacturer.

Pre fab/ pre-fabricated home
Pre-fabricated (pre fab) homes (also known as a pre-engineered homes) also use a factory’s manufacturing process. The home’s main elements – such as walls and trusses, are pre-built and shipped to the site where the home is assembled by a construction crew. Halliday Homes provides the most customized and complete pre fab homes and cottages available

I always thought they were the same thing and when dh started talking about it I was kind of hesitant till he showed me some sites and the houses.

I think everything goes up so fast these days. Somehow I equate fast turn around with low quality. I could be wrong though. If it were me, I'd just try to get some referals and actually talk to people who have lived in their homes for 3-5 years or longer and see what they say.

From what I have read it doesn't necessarily mean the houses go up a lot faster. THey are built with the same materials they would at the site only they are prebuilt at a factory and then assembled onsite. I'm not sure what we will do. I do know building our house would be my first choice, but there is so much more involoved in the price than the cost of the house!

I thought I had heard somewhere that prebuilt houses are actually made better tham regular construction houses. BUT I can't remeber the whole article.

I think my dh told me this too, but I can't remember where I Heard it. Of course all the house sites say how they are the best, blah blah! I figure if it is a big savings and still quality then it's worth it!
