There are two ways out of our subdivision. The short way, the road is right next to our house and the long way, long road before turns to highway, no house down there. I usually take that long way, it's towards town. Lately I've been taking the quick way because the long road has been slushie, slippery and yucky. It's spring here and the snow is starting to melt. So all this week I've been taking the quick way.

The Trans Canada Trail also goes by our subdivision next to the highway, can't take this trail right now because it's covered in snow, so I usually walk on the highway.

So this morning, i head to the highway all is fine, a few vehicles goe by. I get to the highway and look down the road and then I see something on the trail. It was a wolf! So I turned right around and went back home. I was freaked out and the wolf seemed to pick up it's pace as it walked toward the subdivision road. I hightailed it home. I decided not to walk.

I had been wondering because on sunday when I went for a walk I had seen some big footprints in the frozen muck and thought it must be a big dog. So I get to work and tell my boss. He said he'd seen a wolf a couple of times come near his house.

I had also seen a wolf a year ago last november and it was in our subdivision under a street light, it was about 5am when I saw it. My sister in law who works just past our sub across the bridge at a gas station said that there is a wolf that hangs out behind there.

I'm scared now and not sure if I can walk it again. My bosses said not to worry and one guy who used to be a conservation officer said to just carry bear spray. So I don't know what to do. I can't walk tomorrow anyway because I have a meeting at lunch and have to do a quick Kale pick up at one daycare and take him to the other. So we'll see what Friday brings.

Wow Donna...how scary! I'm glad to hear you're okay. I get freaked out by deer...lol so I cannot even imagine a wolf in my tracks.

Be careful!

The one hazard of living in the north. We have a dike that surrounds our town protecting us from the river. It's a common spot to walk. Last summer my mom was walking on it and a bear popped up out of the river and made it's way up on to the dike. It got scared people were yelling from all directions. Finally it bolted into town and up into the hill. It wasn't that far from that end of town only went through a couple of blocks. I about had a heart attack when my mom told me about it.

We live with bears!!! In fact, last summer as we were building our house three bears, momma and her two cubs broke into our home. Thank goodness our hardwood was not installed. The bears pulled three of our encasement windows off their hinges. GGGRRR I was so upset. I called the cops, thinking it was a B&E. When the cop got here, I had figured out it was a bear, as there where thousands off bear paw tracks circling the house. We had not landscaped yet, so our whole yard was sand. You could see all the prints. The cop said he was happy we where not asleep in the house when it happened. As luck would have it, I was sick of sleeping in the trailer on our lot, so we went to sleep at our friends that night. Imagine if our, then, 5 month old baby and DH and I would have been in there sleeping. Highly unlikely, as we did not have electricity or running water yet. Painting was being done and hardwood was about to be layed. The bears broke into the living room windows, and all our hardwood boxes were piled on the floor. The weekend before the break in, I had asked DH to lay the harwood, but we got caught up in painting. Thank God, cuz the bear claws would have destroyed all the flooring. Beleive it or not, I'm not all that affraid of bears. We have them in our yard often. But that day, I was ready to kill the bear, if she would soooo show her face on our property........... DH is a hunter, so we have lot's of guns. If one ever threathened to break in again, the ministry gave us permission to shoot. They think that since that bear had the "guts" to break in, she is fearless. So soon the bears will be out of hibernation and we will have to keep our eyes pealed for them. BTW, after that happened last summer, the ministry put a trap in our yard, with sardines, ect... Do you really think that a bear that is smart enough to break open three windows and lift two of her cubs into a home while she stood guard outside, is dumb enough to walk into a trap???????????? HMMMMMMMM. NOPE.
