They got an offer of $376,000 and they took it. The original asking price was $399,900 and she told me before that shhe didn't want to take anything less than $390,000, but I think with three months on the market and not a decent offer in sight, she had a reality check.

A house right near me finally has a Sale Pending sign on it after being on the market for about 7-8 months and after slashing the price by about $40,000.

Peter and I have been toying around with selling again to be closer to his job (90 miles away, one way) but considering what you have to do to sell your house nowadays, I don't know if we can afford to do that! I think if we really really wanted to get off the Cape, we'd have to see our house for about $320,000, if we're lucky.....waaaaaay less than what we hoped. Is it worth it?????

Holy Smokes! 90 miles! YIKES! I can see why you'd be looking to move. We've even considered moving closer and Dh's drive is only about 40 miles (one way) right now. Currently, we're planning to move to my hometown which would put his commute at 31 miles, but we've batted around the idea of getting a little bit smaller house and only be about 5 miles from his work. I doubt we'll do that, but you never know. The main reason, we're moving to my hometown is because of family.

Did you see last Sunday's edition of Parade? They had the results from a nationwide poll on homes & home ownerships. It said...

ON COMMUTING:

Contrary to popular belief, many (63%) would gladly trade in square footage for less time on the road!

I thought that was quite a high number! I know my DH would LOVE to have less of a drive. We were at the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill concert last weekend and I think some of the words from Tim's song, "Live Like You Were Dying" really hit home with DH as he commented about it.

The articles were really interesting in the paper. One was called Four Reasons to Downsize. Another was How Big is too Big? and it talked about how some local governments are actually passing laws that are limiting the square footage of homes, stuff like that.

Anyway, off to watch AI. I'll update more later.

That is such long commute. It might be worth trying it again. With gas prices the way they are your DH must pay a ton in gas every week. Think of all the extra time he'd be at home f he wasn't commuting.

I agree - figure out what you could afford where you want to live and go for it - family time is so important!!
