My BIL/SIL's family left for vacation over the weekend and DH told me on Sunday night that we had to open the dishwasher for them b/c SIL had turned it on before leaving. So, I left to go to their house at 11pm and I set off the loudest alarm...I must have hit the wrong key or something and started to freak out. Fortunately just as I left our house, DH tells me their password in case I do set the alarm off by accident so I can tell the security company when they call the house. I wait and about 30 secs later, the phone rings. I couldn't hear the woman on the other line very well but told her the password and who I was. And just to be sure, I told it to her once again before I hung it because the alarm was really too loud to hear anything. I didn't know if the police would come or if they would turn it off but it seemed like an eternity waiting for the alarm to turn off.

I called my SIL on her cell and felt so bad for calling so late but I didn't want to risk setting off that stupid alarm again. Setting it off once is enough for one night...lol! I had her stay on the phone with me while I pushed the buttons...that's how paranoid I was.

I called DH and told him what happened...he had a good laugh. I am SO glad he told me the new password!! I unloaded the dishes and checked the house. Before leaving, I called DH on my cell and had him time me so I wouldn't go over the time limit before the alarm goes off. He stayed on the phone as I rushed myself out the door. I stayed a couple of minutes after I locked the door just to be sure the alarm didn't go off again.

Whew...what a night! I was WIDE awake by the time I returned home after midnight.

You'll be glad to know I did have a good laugh at your expense!

Our friends have an alarm system on their house and we were over there once while they were out of town. DH was doing all the cat and dog and plant stuff and I told him I was going to go check my e-mail on their computer. He almost tackled me as I headed down the hall yelling, "NO!" I guess their bedroom is triggered separately from the rest of their house and if I had opened the door the alarm would have gone off even though he had deactivated the main system.

I can just picture you yelling into the phone. DH and his buddy always joke about that . . . the alarm going nuts and him yelling SCUBA SCUBA into the phone! LOL!

Glad everything turned out okay. And now their dishwasher is unloaded for when they get home!

You poor thing! I don't know if I would have been able to sleep after that. I picture myself lying in bed wide awake and then getting caught up in a fit of giggles after the shock wore off. LOL
You're so sweet to take care of their house while they're gone. You deserve some hazard pay or something! LOL
