The sports med. dr. took another look today and he thinks we should try some sort of electrode patch to distribute the cortisone instead of an injection. He said I have no fat in that area (I suppose a good thing, but dang, I wanted some relief today!), so he wants to try this first. I go back tomorrow to have the physical therapist show me; I guess it's a litte machine I use at home? I'm clueless, going to try and google some info. right now so I don't seem so dumb tomorrow at the pt. He did say I've been doing all I can with the regular stretching and ice, so he thinks this might get me over the hump of getting that spot healed. Winnie, Rachel and Sara- thanks for the nice posts yesterday, it meant a lot to me. :)

Never heard of it. But just to hear a doctor tell me, "You don't have enough fat there," would be enough to make swoon! LOL!

I remember a little bit about PT's using the electrodes, but that's about all I know, lol! I think sometimes it is effective in pain relief!

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Never heard of that but I really hope it works for you. It stinks when you are on a good exercising routine and something messes that up ((Hugs))

I had something like this done when I was in physical therapy last summer (I hurt my shoulder as a result of a car accident). For several weeks I got a lovely massage but eventually the doctor prescribed something that gave electric shots to distribute the medicine. It was OK, it didn;t hurt or anything. They just applied the patch, adjusted the levels and left me alone for about 20 minutes. It did realize my pain for days at a time, but I gutta admit, that car accident was well over a year ago and that damn shoulder still hurts all the time! I stopped all physical therapy after the dr stopped the patch and wanted to try the cortizone shots...I said no way to a shot!

Here's a little information I found:

http://www.rehabpub....es/122004/2.asp

I have the newer self-contained patch, similar to that shown in photos B/C, except mine has something that looks like a little control panel on it with a light on. Very strange looking to wear, but at least I can move around and don't have to be hooked up to a machine. It does hurt when it's on, like hundreds of needle pokes, but at this point I'll try anything. Tomorrow I go again for the PT to apply, then for the next 5 days I have to apply it myself. In two weeks, we'll see how it feels and I'll know better whether or not I'll be hanging up my running shoes.

Oh, man, Lisa, that was hard just reading that. I hate to think of you having to do that because I know the running means a lot to you. Maybe it will end up just being something where you can still run, but not as far or push yourself so much.
