Ok... this ended up longer than I had intended...
My dh and I decided back in July to run this race. It is a marathon, 1/2 marathon, marathon relay (our first thought was to get a team and do this), or a 10K. People actually use this marathon to qualify for the Boston.
I actually had a team of girls set to do it, but everyone dropped out for one reason or another. It's the 10 year aniversary for this run, so we HAD to go (expecting a neat shirt!). Therefore, it was the 10K for us!
We arrived for the 10:00am start at 9am, so spent a bit of time visiting the 'loo' and drinking a bit. It was overcast and cool, so I ended up switching from a tank to a regular t-shirt because the wind had picked up, and it was much cooler than usual. By the end of the race it was raining a bit and the wind was blowing a gale, so I was glad for the extra coverage! I still ended up shivering!
We got a bus out to the start line, and we saw a woman in a bright yellow outfit running towards us. Turns out, she was running the 1/2 marathon and got an early start because she was LEGALLY BLIND! She ran past, and we were 'held' for 10 minutes to give her a head start. We were instructed to pass her only on the outside and announce as we came up on her.
I didn't have to worry about this!!!
The first 5K of the race was really 'hard'. My head just didn't seem to be 'in the game' so I found it hard to get my pace, or to get into any kind of rhythm. I was dreading the last half, but at exactly the 5K point I got my 'first wind'! I ended up finishing the second half 10 minutes faster than the first half, and the two biggest hills are in the second half. The entire course is very hilly, but there were a few hills that were over 1.5K long, so I considered them the real threats!
My time was 1:10:53 which placed me in 15th place! My dh, on the other hand, was 3rd overall and 2nd in his age category with a time of 46:33... 3min slower than usual!
The supper following was awsome, we got a really nice long sleve shirt, and I'm not sore following it! My legs feel 'tired', but I'm going for a short run tonight just to stretch them out!
You can scroll down this website and look for Alfred and Jennifer MacKay under the 10K results! No pictures yet, but I'll certainly let you know if any get posted!

WTG!!!!! Sounds like a great race!
We have a relay marathon, too, that I'd really like to try. Just gotta find a couple others who won't mind my slow time! LOL.
Good job!

WTG Jen and to your DH too!!! Congrats on speeding up over those hills!!! Wow, your DH is FAST!! Amazing to hear about the blind lady running the race! I don't think I've ever seen a blind person in any of the races I've been in yet. It must have been nice running by the lake. I also find that the first 2-3 miles are tough until you get into the right pace in longer runs.
Thanks for sharing the details with us! I enjoyed reading your race experience that day.

Great report!! And don't you know, race reports MUST be long!! We have to have the details!!
WTG on a great run & WOW to your dh!! He did great! I haven't done a real 10K race yet, but I'd like to to see what kind of time I get!
Great job - what did they serve for food?? That's the important part!
Are you planning on running any other races in the near future???
Hugs,
Jess

I'm actually planning on the 5K Run for the Cure on Oct. 1, and a 10K on Oct. 29 - Cape Breton Fiddler's Run (marathon, 1/2, 10K and 5K). After that, the next run for me will be the 'Slush Run' next March. I'll be in training all winter for the Cabot Trail Relay Race next May, which has been a real dream for me for a long time!
