Allyn.... I saw your "failure" comment yesterday....

I do have some advice: I think you should see a podiatrist and/or have your running gait analyzed now, while the pain is still there. It could be as simple as an orthodic insert or a different type of shoe (the PT told me my injury probably originated from wearing neutral cushioned shoes instead of stability shoes when I was increasing my mileage). Knowing that I’m exhausting every option for a cure is the one thing that is easing that “failure” feeling. I have my four Physical Therapy sessions set up over the next two weeks, and if this new treatment doesn’t work, I can’t feel guilty or like a failure any more. That's the pact I've made with myself. I really think you'll feel better if you can get some medical advice; it will make you realize it’s not your fault and get you back out there!
Keep me posted, fellow runner girl!

And neither of you are failures!!!! Believe me, since I've been injured in the past I know what it feels like to *not* be able to do what you want!! I felt the same way when I had my tendonitis (which I thought was a stress fracture). But, you will get through it. In the mean time, do your pilates & really concentrate on your strength training. It really will help your muscles & strengthen to help prevent any more injuries.

Thanks, Lisa. I'm starting to get used to the idea a little more. I think I read that book "No Need for Speed" at a good time. He said a lot of things like who cares how/what you do, the dumbest thing is to "push through the pain" and it's only going to hurt you worse in the end, etc. A few days ago there was *no way* I could go in and run at all, but it seems to be getting better a little bit each day, so I may go in next week or something (although, it's the week of the marathon, so maybe that isn't a good week to hit the running store? LOL) I know they also had a thing were they had sports medicine people coming into the store once a month that you could consult with for free, so I will probably see if they're still doing that, too.
I'm not ready to give up totally yet. Just bummed I wasn't able to hit the goals I had set for the year.

You're right, Michelle. Just over a year ago, I was telling Lisa, Winnie, Jess, etc that they were crazy for running and it was something you'd *never* see me doing! LOL I know I am stronger and healthier. I can't even remember the last time I needed my inhaler for exercise, so that's gotta mean something!
I'm gonna get back to focusing on Pilates...and Gunnar
Thanks!

Well, to be honest, our insurance sucks. LOL. It doesn't cover anything til we hit our $7000 deductible.

What kind of generic orthotics do you use?
Allyn,
Spenco is highly recommended around here. That is what my PT has me wearing until I get my custom orthodics adjusted after my treatments. You can find them at most sporting good stores and shoes stores that carry a wide range of athletic footwear.
