Well, we have been wanting to redo the flooring in our first floor since we moved in (5 yrs ago)! We went to Lowe's this weekend to price some flooring & to our surprise it was a lot more reasonable than we thought! We got the Kronotex (cheaper version of Pergo) in the oak laminate. It just clicks together, no glue. Well, since we were going to be redoing the floor, I decided to repaint the living room. I've always hated the way the color turned out in there, much darker & pinker than it was supposed to!! Anyway, I picked out a cheery shade of yellow & it REALLY brightened it up in there. I got the primer coat on (with some help from the girls, they loved painting!), and then the paint done around 10PM last night.

Greg got all of the carpet ripped up & half of the white linoleum in the kitchen. Thankfully it's come up really easy!! We found some really nasty 70's style linoleum underneath it, yuck! Greg & Jon (a guy from church) laid the floor on the main pathway from the front door to the end of the kitchen wall. It looks AWESOME, I love it. It's going to be sooooo much easier to keep clean too!! The house is now a disaster w/ everything either moved out on the deck, garage, or in another place around here, but I'm thrilled w/ how great it looks already! I'm trying not to freak out about the mess, there's nothing that can be done about it til it's all completed!

Then we're moving on to Hannah's room. Here's the border she picked out http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=prod...&lpage=none (Allyn- I know you'll love it!) & she picked a creamy yellow w/ purple for the trim in her room. It was the nursery room that we've never redecorated. It has blue & white striped wallpaper, so we'll have to get that stripped before we can even think to start painting.

And after that, we'll just do a little work in the bathroom. For now, it has cheap peel & stick linoleum (that is peeling & pulling apart) so we got a nice sheet of marbled linoleum to put down. I'm going to put a fresh coat of paint in there (I think light blue), and we're getting a new toilet.

So...... in case you were wondering what I'm up to/ will be up to, that's it! Greg, Jon, & Brian (Greg's brother) are going to be here working on the flooring tonight, hopefully finishing up the living room & getting part of the kitchen done.

My motto is..... it will look so great when it's done, it will look so great when it's done.... trying not to notice the mess now!!

Hugs,
Jess

It'll be so worth it! But I understand how it's driving you nuts to have things such a mess. :P That was one thing I didn't like when we did our basement, and it was mostly just dust up here.

Thanks, Sara!! The flooring is pretty much done, just a little spot by the door in the kitchen & the trim around now!! So things are falling back in place, just needs a good tidy & everything needs to find a home again!! I loooooove it & it looks soooo great.

How are you doing??? Long time no *see*!!

Hugs,
Jess

You'd better!! So when are you coming to visit??? You do realize that it's been FIVE years since you came to visit!! (not too long after we moved in here!)

How are things going? How are the kiddos doing in school?

Jess

I just really want to see pictures!!!

There is nothing I HATE more than renovations, but nothing I like looking at more than OTHERS renovating pictures!

Give us a view of the progress!

Jen

I'm so envious! I have a couple of things that need to be done, but I just don't have the $$ or the time right now! :hugs:

OY! Does THAT sound like a project! :yahoo: LOL!

You know, I've heard that if wallpaper is in good condition you can actually a paint over it. Don't know how true it is, but it makes sense. It may be a little less labor intensive to put a coat of primer over it then paint it as you normally would. Just an idea... Are you taking before and after pics? I'd LOVE to see how it all turns out! :hugs:

Wow, I am sooooo impressed that you were able to paint with the girls at home!! WTG Jess!! I haven't even considered that as an option with the kids at home. I have so many renovations I want to do here too and painting the bathrooms sounds like a good start for me. I will be sure to ask you for painting advice! I'm sure it will all look beautiful when you are done...can't wait to see pics!

Well, I started the priming while they were at school so I really only had about a wall & a half to go while priming. The floor was already torn up in the living room so it didn't matter if they got it on the floor (and they did!). They just had a blast painting. Then while I painted the room my dh was home & we found them things to keep occupied. They thought it was so neat, but stayed out of my way while I was doing the actual paint.

A couple tips- get the thick blue painters tape & put it all over the top of the ceilings, all over the trim you don't want painted, and make sure to use at least 1 coat of primer. This time I got the 1 coat Kilz paint (just got it at Wal*mart) & it worked great. Let me know if you need any other tips, we've painted almost every room in the house now!

And the flooring is DONE!!! Now all we have to do is the trim/ moulding all around the floor. It looks awesome!!

Hugs,
Jess

Can't wait to see the pics! We put down laminate in the kitchen and dining room a couple years ago. Don't know how I lived with carpet! I love it!

I keep saying I'm going to paint the kids rooms but just can't get to it. It's only been a year since I got their new bedding, LOL! I hate painting!

Thanks for the tips Jess! How long does it take for the primer to dry before you can paint another coat or paint it with regular paint? Can't wait to see pics of all your hard work! ((Hugs))

Well, this time I got the Kilz primer which only takes an hour to dry. So by the time you're done w/ one coat, you can start painting!! Very easy to work with & will cover ANY color of paint.

I have some pics up now, http://www.picturetrail.com/jess_jugs That was as of Wednesday. But today we got the molding put around the floor & it really finished it off. I found new drapes at Target (green, yellow, & light blue plaid) & got a new curtain rod at Lowe's. It is coming together really nicely!!! Lots of work, but it's WELL worth it!! I'll post more pics when it's all done!

Hugs,
Jess
