it is about RENFREW a palce where girls have gone for eating disorders.. and OMG.. I just have to be reminded of this place and how freaking unhealthy they are when I am complaining about being fat....
One of the girls is only 82 pounds..... and she is an adult.. scary scary.. the thing that got me was one statement that said.... ".... my mom took me to the doc when I was 7... b/c of a cold or something.. and the doc told my mom I was fat... at 7 he said I was fat... my mom said I wasnt' he said I was over weight and something needed to be done about it.. "
Can you believe it??? at 7 FAT!!!!!
Man I hope I never pass that on to my daughter....
Just had to share....

I saw a preview to that and it is so sad and very scarey. I really need to watch what I say about myself so that my daughter will not grow up disliking herself. I am very negative about my body...thankfully though I am changing that by eating healthy and exercise

I saw this featured on one of the talk shows. We don't have showtime, but it looked like such a great show. Very informative and so sad what those girls have done to their bodies.

I've been thinking about this post and this show since I read it this morning and it's had me thinking. My daughter Miranda is at a very vulnerable age for girls; a time when eating disorders can be so prevalent. She decided a year ago to make winsor pilates a part of her daily routine. Just 20 minutes a day, nearly every day, for over a year now and she's really sculpted her body HEALTHY thin! And the toning it did for her body made her rethink what she was eating and now she eats so healthy, too. She doesn't "diet", she's just more conscious. It's wonderful that she's discovered you don't have to starve yourself to be fit. And like mommy, she always orders cheese cake when she's out dining. Thanks to pilates, we can have our cake AND eat it, too!
Here she is in Spring 2005:

and below left is Spring 2004 and Right is Winter 2005 after several months of Pilates:

and my most recent picture of Miranda (middle) on Thanksgiving. She's 13 now and oh, so FIT thanks to Pilates. She's 5' 7.5" inches now, too!

Lauren.. I hear ya about the having our cake and eating it too thing.......... I really hate how society has beat it into women's and childrens heads that to be anything you have to be thin.... wth?????????? I dont get it....
But there still is moderation in everything.. this I have had to work on.. and still try to model it for my kids.. Gretchen especially.. she has the same love of food that I do!!!!

I didn't see the show, but this is something I'm very aware of -- I was always the "skinny one" and my older sister was anorexic, bulimic in high school to try to be thinner. I'd have traded my thin-ness for her Homecoming Queen looks & boobs! So, I guess my point is that I try to avoid the scale, I don't exercise because of "fat" but because of health & I try to drum that into my kids heads....its fine to be aware of our bodies as long as health, and not thin-ness, is the goal...kwim?
