Do you buy most of your books at full price, buy them at a discount, borrow them from people or a library?

I know Kerry has mentioned due to her "in" at the library that she brings home "donations".

Just wondering how everyone else gets their material. Like, for example, when you want to read a new book that isn't available to borrow do you give in and purchase it or just wait for it?

Is it important for you to build a personal library?

I mostly use the public library. I can't afford my reading habit, and don't have room for all the books! LOL There are some authors/series that I will buy...Liz Curtis Higgs, The Outlander Series, Philippa Gregory, and a couple more. Sometimes I will cave in and buy a book that I'm anxious to read, but most of the time my mom beats me to it, and she passes on her books to me. My mom buys ALL her books, so I get quite a few of my books from her as well.

I have a variety of resources. Most of the time I buy used books at the library. I try to go the first Saturday of the month when you can buy a bag of books for $5. They give you a plastic grocery bag and you can get as many books as you can fit in a bag. I also borrow books and books on tape from the library. My Mom occasionally give me books and last but not least, I borrow books from you--Peggy smile.gif

I rarely keep books unless it's for sentimental reasons. I don't read books more than once so keeping them just takes up space for me. I pass them on to my Mom or give them to the library to resell.

I used to buy buy buy, I've changed my ways! about 5 years ago I took a huge pile and got credit at the used book store, that was awesome. I buy a few at the used book store when we go there, I probably get 50% from the library, another 25% I borrow from friends or my mom, then I buy new about 10-20% of my books that are either on wait list forever at the library (our county is huge and we have about 10-12 public libraries, and so being #157 in line for a book isn't too bad but it still can take 8 weeks or so) or that I spontaneously purchase!

I buy most of mine but never for full price, I use Chapters/Coles and have a discount card, or amazon.ca/com depending on who has the better price, sometimes when I'm in Whitehorse I'll shop at Walmart, Coles or the local book store. Superstore also now has a book section. I also go to the used book store in Whitehorse as well. I got the whole Sookie Stackhouse series for dirt cheap there, still haven't read it though. Also, everyone who knows me gives me either books from my wishlist or gift cert for Christmas and Birthday.

Just yesterday my boss brought a bag of books from his wife for me to look through, I took about half the books.

I rarely (if ever) read a book more than once, so I don't usually buy books. I do get alot of books as gifts, so that fills my shelves. smile.gif I am a library junkie. I love the fact I can go online and request a whole slew of books and they will waiting for me when I pick them up. smile.gif
